Methyl Etheyl Ketone Peroxide

The project with an annual output of 8,000 tons of methyl ethyl ketone peroxide has undergone trial operation and strict acceptance by relevant departments, registered with the State Administration of Work Safety, and has obtained a safety production license

Product Info

Organic peroxides are thermally unstable substances or mixtures, which can undergo exothermic self-accelerating decomposition. The thermal stability of an organic peroxide is characterized by its Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT). The SADT is the lowest temperature at which the peroxide will decompose in its original packaging via a so-called runaway reaction. This runaway reaction can be, dependent on the circumstances, a fierce decomposition, followed by self-ignition of the vapors or even an explosion.

Contamination of a peroxide with for instance metals, acid, alkalis or accelerators lowers the stability and consequently the SADT of the peroxide. This can possibly result in a runaway reaction at ambient temperatures. Especially MEKP formulations are very sensitive for contamination.

  • SADT:Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature

The SADT is the lowest temperature at which selfaccelerating decomposition may occur with a substance in the packaging as used in transport.

  • Ts max :Maximum storage temperature

The Ts max. given in the product list on pages 4-5 is the recommended maximum storage temperature at which the product is stable and quality loss will be minimal.

  • Ts min :Minimum storage temperature

The Ts max. given in the product list on pages 4-5 is the recommended maximum storage temperature at which the product is stable and quality loss will be minimal.

  • Tem :Critical temperature

The Tem is derived from the SADT and is the temperature at which emergency procedures must be triggered.

  • IN CASE OF FIRE

    NOTIFY FIRE DEPARTMENT

SMALL FIRES - use water or carbon dioxide extinguisher.

LARGE FIRES - from a safe distance use water, preferably fog or spray or water-based agents such as AFF foam.

KEEP CONTAINERS COOL with water spray during fires near storage or handling areas.

DIFFICULT TO IGNITE – BURNS VIGOROUSLY, WITH INCREASED INTENSITY.

AFTER FIRE - WAIT UNTIL COOL before attempting clean-up or salvage operations.

  • FIRST AID

EYES - Irrigate immediately with water and continue washing for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical attention promptly.

SKIN - Remove contaminated clothes and shoes and then wash skin thoroughly with soap and water.

IF SWALLOWED - Do not induce vomiting. Drink large quantities of milk or water. Obtain immediate medical attention.

INHALATION - Obtain medical attention. Remove to fresh air and contact physician immediately.

  • STORAGE

STORE IN A COOL PLACE - AWAY FROM FLAMMABLE MATERIALS. Separate isolated storage should be provided for large quantities.

NEVER store in a REFRIGERATOR containing food or drink.

NEVER store with COBALT COMPOUNDS or other promoters or accelerators or corrosives or flammables.

ONLY ORIGINAL CONTAINERS should be used for storage.

"NO SMOKING" and "ORGANIC PEROXIDE" - "KEEP FIRES AWAY" signs should be provided at all storage locations.

  • HANDLING

NO SMOKING, NO SPARKS, NO HEAT, NO CONTAMINATION.

WEAR SAFETY GLASSES or goggles and PROTECTIVE GLOVES.

PROVIDE SAFETY SHOWER and EYE WASH Remove from storage only the AMOUNT OF MATERIAL IMMEDIATELY NEEDED in the process area.

NEVER RETURN MEKP TO ORIGINAL CONTAINER. Dispose of empty containers in compliance with Local regulations.

For handling MEKP removed from original container, use only clean containers of approved material. Never place in glass or metal containers except approved stainless steel containers and then only for immediate use.
